CAMARO PARTS
The First Generation of Camaro came out on September 26 1966. Much like the Ford Mustang’s 1964 ½ the first Camaro came out as 1967 model. The First Generation would be made up until 1969 and would inspire the new 2010 Camaro. This new born American Legend came with three different package options in the first Generation the RS, SS, and the Z/28. The RS was considered the “Basic” Package and most were equipped with 230 Cubic inch (3.8L) straight-6 engine. Many other engine options were available including a 302 and 327 V-8. As for the transmission, most had a Saginaw three speed manual transmission although a four speed was available. Also, the two speed “Power- Glide” transmission surprisingly, was very popular in 1967 and 1968 until it was replaced by the "Turbo Hydra-Matic 350" three speed in 1969.
The SS was the mid package and was quite an upgrade of power and comfort from the RS. The standard engine in the SS was 350 cubic inch (5.7L) and also came with a huge 396 cubic inch (6.5 L) as an option for those introducing Camaro into the race scene. The other new camaro parts and upgrades from the RS included, air inlets on the hood (which were non-functional and actually didn’t do anything), special striping, front fenders, gas cap, and horn button. The Transmission on the SS models were mostly the same as the RS but more four speeds were offered.
The almighty Z/28 hit the road in December of 1967 with almost no one knowing they even existed. The Z/28 was never advertised and so most people didn’t know they were even made until seen at certain Chevy Dealers. There were only 602 Z/28’s sold in 1967 making one of the rarest cars made in 1967. With many new camaro parts the Z/28 was made to hit the track. The 1967 and 1968 Z/28 got air from an open element air cleaner or from an optional cowl duct attached to the side of the air cleaner that ran to the firewall and got air from the cowl vents. Making this ready to race. Another great upgrade in 1969 was the cowl induction hood made famous on the Indy 500 camaro pace car in 1969. The last of the upgrades and new camaro parts were the 15” inch wheels rally wheels a great addition to an already great car.
