CHEVELLE PARTS
The first Chevelle rolled
off the assembly line in 1964.
Chevy newest addition to the muscle car line-up of 60’s was one that really
stood out above the rest throughout the years of its production. With tons
of different options, great new features, and Chevelle parts that were
perfectly crafted, Chevy set the standard for American Muscle in 1964.
The
early 1964 and 1965 Chevelles had a Malibu SS. After 1965, the Malibu SS
badging disappeared except for those sold in Canada. The Chevelle SS, which
became a regular series of its own in 1966 called the SS 396, which was the
high performance version and had its own line of engines, performance
equipment, and Chevelle parts. The first generation of the Chevelle was
produced from 1964-1972. A lot of different options and models were offered
each year and that made this American Muscle car a living legend.
In 1964, the first year the Chevelle was released, it came in four
different model types the
Z-16,
convertible, Malibu (high options), Super Sport (SS).
The base model in 1964 had a standard 194 cubic inch inline
6-cylinder. This car was made for more of touring model that offered a lot
of luxury rather than power.
The hottest 64 Chevelle
the SS came packed with a 300hp 327 V8. Other great options included a 327
with 250hp; a 283 with 220 hp, 283 with 195hp. making this “back to classic”
muscle car not only look good but could have plenty of power as well. Some
great features and Chevelle parts offered that year were a wastebasket
trailer hitch, A/C, and a rear defroster a great new option.
The 1965 Chevelle was the real first sign that Chevy was moving into
the performance car era. They first produced the Z-16 with a 398 V-8.
However there were only 201(only one of those being a convertible) of these
produced making them almost impossible to find in 1965. The Z-16 model
package included stouter convertible frames, heavy-duty suspension, front
and rear anti-roll bars, and power-assisted steering. Also, a Muncie 4-speed
on the floor was an option. As for the base model it still offered a
6-cylinder and a 3-speed transmission. A great new upgrade to the SS model
was the 327 V-8. With introduction of this engine option it really help
thrust the Chevelle into the race scene, where it was ready to make a
statement.
As for the 1966 Chevelle, it was time for a cosmetic change. They went for a sleeker design that included, a broader grille and bumper, a raked roofline, chrome accents, and a curved side window. Also two simulated scoops were offered on the SS model a soon to be trademark of the SS. Engine options only changed in the base model which they added an optional 283 V-8. New features and Chevelle parts were power windows, comfortilt Steering Wheel, Four Season Air Conditioning, and Cruise Control.
The new 1967 Chevelle added a new line of awesome SS 427’s. They came stock with a turbo-jet engine and a ton of new features like performance springs and shocks, red line tires, and extra wide rims. As for cosmetic changes there were very few. The most noticeable was probably the increased amount of chrome around the exterior. Why change an already great car. The 1968 made some great improvements with the release of the fastback model. Making the Chevelle look a lot more sporty while still keeping its traditional power and luxury. It was 1969 and it was now time for Chevelle to really shine. Now with all models offering an optional 396 V-8 and the newly styled tail panel / lights the Chevelle really made a statement in 69.
At the start of the decade it was time for Chevelle to make a final statement as the muscle and pony car era was coming to an end. Chevelle built the 1970 LS-6 with an awesome 454 V8. With great upgraded suspension and Magnum 500 steel wheels the new 454 looked and performed well.
As for the 1971 Chevelle it came with quite a few changes. As for engine options, the standard Chevelle engine was now a single exhaust 350 V8, and optional was the 350 V8 4V with 270hp, the 402 engine previously known as a 396 was renamed the "Turbo Jet 400" and offered only 300hp. Also, the LS6 454 was also no longer offered, and with great interest the LS5 454 returned with 365hp. Still making the Chevelle a powerhouse on the track. As for cosmetic changes were the 71 Chevelle was redesigned with the new single headlight designs and could be optioned with hood stripes and the cowl induction hood. Making for a great new look.
